Renault Clio 25 years: congratulations!
One of the most important cars of Renault celebrates its 25 years and the AUTO SAPO recalls the key moments and figures.
Launched in 1990, the Clio has replaced the famous R5 and quickly became a success. Twenty-five years later and more than 12.5 million units later, the Clio remains one of the most important models in the range Renault, and in Portugal’s frequent customer first among the best selling models.
In 1990, the Clio has replaced the popular Renault 5 in the segment of small utilities, but immediately threw himself into the greatest adventures on the experience gained from the Renault 19. The Clio was streamlined, spacious for a car with a length of 3.71 meters, presenting latest technology engines and a good dynamic behavior. Qualities that were more common in upper segments proposals.
The style was a success and the first generation of the Clio was awarded several prizes, including the “Car of the Year” in 1991. An important achievement for the Clio, before the tough competition of the Peugeot 205, Citroën AX, Fiat Uno, Opel Corsa, Ford Fiesta and many others.

In 2001 the Clio II is subjected to a complete restyling. The exterior design becomes more dynamic, the carrier quality sees increased. Also new to register were the introduction of EBA (emergency braking assistance), twin headlights, seat belts with belt tensioners, automatic climate control and rain and light sensors.

The Clio III came on the scene in 2005, without thereby discontinuing from the production of the Clio II for some time, now to be called Clio Campus. The new Clio returned to growth (3.99 meters) and has also become more comfortable with five real seats.
